John Steele is a traditional guitar and fiddle player from the northeast of England. Equally at home playing as a soloist or as an accompanist to singers and musicians, John has a guitar style that is distinctively his own, firmly based in the English tradition yet also embracing musical ideas and techniques from elsewhere.

John has many years of experience as a traditional musician in the northeast of England, Toronto in Canada, and Boston in the USA. He has worked in bands with and as an accompanist to many of the best Irish, Scottish and Northumbrian musicians and singers based in northern England and in Canada.

John has toured extensively with traditional singer and Canadian Folk Music Awards nominee Rebecca Barclay. The duo have released two CDs of traditional songs from the British Isles and Canada arranged for voice and guitar.

John has made several live appearances on British and Canadian radio and has also provided music for theatre productions in the north of England.

With many years teaching experience, John is also available to teach guitar and fiddle workshops.
